From Monday through Saturday, the altar carved by Veit Stoss opens at 11:50 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m. On Sundays and holidays, the St. Mary’s Altar is open from 2:10 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. On certain Sundays and feast days, there will be no altar opening ceremony, as it remains open during the celebration of the Liturgy. This is due to the depiction on it of various scenes from the lives of Jesus and Mary, including the Nativity, the Resurrection, and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
